Beltane is almost here! (My personal favorite) A time to celebrate fertility, mischief and pleasure.  Beltane is a Neo pagan fire festival, celebrated around May 1st, which uses Gaelic and Germanic traditions to honor the return of the sun.  It is one of the biggest Wiccan holidays, second only to Samhain. Like Samhain, the veil is thin once again. A time where change is upon us, and personal power is at its peak. The energies are prime for meditation and divination, as we welcome love and the light of spring into our life.

The eve of Beltane is known as a lusty night and a perfect opportunity to remind ourselves of our ability to design our lives. Fire represents new beginnings, passion and the power of creation.  It is customary during this festival to jump over a fire for luck, light a candle and make a wish, or weave in your intentions for the upcoming season with your may pole ribbon.

It’s also ideal for upping the passion in your life, and setting personal goals. Take a moment to stop and feel,   reconnect with your core. Ask yourself: If you didn’t get a pay check what would you want to do with your life? What sets YOU on fire? When was the last time you tossed your inhibitions and surrendered to your senses? What needs to unfold in your life?

Above all else, Beltane is about pleasure, so enjoy yourself! I’ve included a cheat sheet below of custom’s, a recipe, colors, tools, and ideas to help you do just that!

Color associations: Traditionally the maypoles were decorated with red or green and White ribbon.  Red represented fertility and the sun god, green for the green man, and white representing the goddess and new life.  That said, feel free to use whatever color resonates with you and your intention.

Tool Options: Fresh flowers, candles, rose quartz, Carnelian, Garnet, Cherry Quartz, & bloodstone

Customs/Ritual Ideas:  Have a bonfire with friends, prepare a May basket for loved ones or a neighbor, wash your face in the mornings dew at first light, Make a May pole for the youngsters, or better – join them! Remember to weave in your intention and release your wish with the ribbon.
